MRT Preview: Marcellus Wright & Partners // May Residence

We are pleased to bring you a preview of this month's Exchange Event.  Located in the Wilton neighborhood, the American Institute of Architects presented this home a Merit Award in 1966.  In recent years, the home has been sensitively renovated and offers numerous pointers for how to meld classic modern design with contemporary aesthetics and function.  Partner-in-Charge, William W. Moseley, AIA, will be speaking at the event on Wednesday and has graciously shared a bit of the design process and history of the house.  See you there.

The original written description of the house, included as part of the AIA nomination, highlights a simple and elegant design strategy: respect the natural landscape and ground the home in the existing topography.

The site plan clearly illustrates the relationship of the home to the sloping site and the existing natural features.

We urge you to take a break from the summer heat and join us for an evening of conversation and views of the James River from this classic home.  You can connect with us on Facebook, too.
